Jamie Carragher has claimed that Jose Mourinho is close to giving up on Anthony Martial, hence the sudden surge for Alexis Sanchez.
Anthony Martial has been in fine form this season, often coming off the bench to supply the goods for Manchester United. However, according to the Daily Mail, Jamie Carragher is still convinced that Jose Mourinho isn’t impressed with the Frenchman, following spouts in the past.
“(Anthony Martial) is a player who came to Manchester United a couple of years ago and you were thinking he was going to be a world beater. It just hasn’t happened and I think Jose Mourinho has probably run out of patience. That’s why he’s come out of nowhere to try and get Sanchez.” – Jamie Carragher
It’s always been hard for Anthony Martial to solidify himself a place in Jose Mourinho’s setup. This has led many to believe there is conflict between the two. It certainly hasn’t effected the Frenchman’s performances, in fact it’s enhanced them if anything.
Heading into the second half of the season, the former Monaco man has contributed to 16 of Manchester United’s goals across all competitions.
For an unknown reason, Jose Mourinho joined the hunt for Alexis Sanchez, and perhaps swayed the Chilean to his side of Manchester. This has pondered the question, what does it mean for Anthony Martial?
After many seemed certain that Alexis Sanchez would join Manchester City, Jose Mourinho has swooped in for the Arsenal man. This led Arsenal to the suspicion that Manchester United would be open to sell Anthony Martial, hence the inquiries that were made.
Arsene Wenger is a known advocate of Martial, with his style resembling Thierry Henry’s Monaco days.
It seems that Manchester United would be more open to selling Henrikh Mkhitaryan to make room for Alexis Sanchez, rather than Anthony Martial, contrary to Jamie Carragher’s beliefs.
